1 Pot – Calgary, Alberta

It was a pretty chilly spring evening when we decided to go to Chinatown in Calgary and try 1 Pot which is located right next to the paid parking lot. The space is large inside, but they were really busy! We made reservations as a friend told us it’s a good idea to… and it is! Just make sure you and your entire party gets there on time!

We didn’t know how to order… if checking “1” actually meant “1” of the item or if it’s “1 order”, but it turns out to be just 1! So, we had to get a few more sheets for us to mark down what we wanted!

There’s tons of varieties of soups and there’s also a sauce bar kind of thing where you grab a bowl and put the sauces you like into the bowl to enjoy with your hot pot.

The food, and the soup was pretty decent. The quality was ok – but the portions were a bit on the smaller side. So, order lots up front too!

Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience, and they’re super busy – so they must be doing something right!

Bill’s Peking House – Calgary, Alberta

I didn’t realize I was so far behind in posting these blogs up. I was talking to Cody the other afternoon about Bill’s Peking House and I was trying to tell him I’ve been here. I looked up my blog and realized I didn’t post it… so, here it is, almost a year late as I went here for my birthday. The location isn’t hard to find as it’s located right on Canyon Meadows Drive and it is a second floor restaurant. The restaurant is actually very clean for a Chinese place, and we were impressed with the quality of Chinese food in a South restaurant.

This birthday dinner was just my husband and I, and we ordered their Peking Duck – 3 Courses and it was actually quite delicious! It’s one of the reasons why I thought it was weird I didn’t blog this yet. Anyway, the first course is always the skin of the duck with the traditional pancakes and condiments. The duck wasn’t all skin and fat, and it was crispy and delicious!

Our second course was a soup, and they use the duck bones and some of the meat for the broth. The soup is loaded with tofu, duck and some spinach. The soup was flavourful and pretty light.

Now, for the last course, it’s my favourite one! We chose it to be a broad noodle dish, so they use the Chinese broad noodles with the duck meat, napa cabbage and other traditional Chinese ingredients for fried broad noodles. It was really good, a tad on the greasy side – but what is Chinese food without grease!? So, it was perfect!

Overall, this was a memorable meal, as I remembered about it almost 9 months later! This is a place where we would to back to, even though their target audience is mostly for the Caucasian guests. The owners were so happy to talk to us in Chinese, so we knew it’s a treat for them that we were there! We’d be happy to go back anytime!

Macleod Sushi & BBQ

All you can eat sushi is all I can say! We made it here with my sister and brother-in-law one evening after an exhausting day at the zoo. Needless to say, we were starving and figured we should eat at a place that offered “unlimited” food! This location is located on the west side of Macleod trail, and it’s a fairly large restaurant.

This restaurant is really neat, and it offers both Korean BBQ and sushi options. We ordered food from both, and the food was extremely delicious. I really enjoyed the seasoned raw meat that I got to cook on the BBQ on the middle of our table! It was such a fun experience!

The neat thing about this location, when you order “1 order” of something, you actually only get “ONE” item! It really helps as they know eventually you get full… so, in a way, they’re helping you out on sampling their food! My example would be the Salmon Teriyaki, as you can see, there’s only one piece! Not all of the plates of food was like this, but they were small portions!

My favourite sushi rolls from here would be Mango and Crispy Roll as well as the Smoked Salmon Roll

I really enjoyed all the sushi from here! It was actually better than the Korean BBQ, even though it was fun! The plates of sushi came out fast, the food was fresh and delicious!

To top of the entire eating experience here at Macleod Sushi & BBQ, dessert!! I ordered a bowl of Mango Tapica Pudding which was great as I got to leave this restaurant on such a high note. With a great dessert, it makes this restaurant really memorable!

Overall, I really enjoy this restaurant. It was never a place I thought about going to, but I’m so glad we stopped in! It has now become on the top of my list for sushi, all you can eat!

Sushi Ichiban – Calgary, Alberta

Sushi Ichiban was a neat place to go. It’s tucked away off Macleod Trail, on the East side – but it does offer a small parking lot. The nice thing about this place is the fact it is All You Can Eat which is wonderful for me, as I’m a sushi monster!

I love the fact that the sushi comes out on a boat, if you order large amounts! It looks great, and the sushi tastes great too!

We had 4 people, and each of us had our own favourites. At the end of the day, we ate TONS of sushi, and it was quite good and fresh!

We not only had a ton of sushi, we also enjoyed tempura, and fried yams, as well as BBQ Beef steaks. They were all good, but not as good as the actual sushi. In fact, the BBQ Beef was a little tough, even though it was great flavours!

I really enjoyed the Agedashi Tofu from here, as it was quite smooth, and fried to a wonderful crisp!

A fun thing they offer here is variations of California Rolls, we ordered 2 of the 3 variations, and my brother in law loved them!

As stuffed as we were, there’s always room for Coconut Pudding Dessert, which I must say – it wasn’t as good as other coconut pudding desserts. But, I think it was just because I was super stuffed!

Overall, I was really pleased with the sushi here. I’d recommend this location if you’re looking to eat just sushi actually. It’s not bad, and the prices are competitive with other sushi places around this area.
