Louisiana Purchase – Edmonton, Alberta

I have wonderful coworkers that send me to eat at awesome places, and this particular time they sent me to Edmonton in search for a delicious Southern food and ended up at Louisiana Purchase in downtown Edmonton.

We started with their Seafood Gumbo which is something I can eat day and and day out of my life. Basically very fragrant and flavourful soup with seafood! All things that I like and here, no exception!! This thick soup is here to satisfy me!

This was dinner, and I ordered their Louisiana Jambalaya which is a plate of baked Tomato rice with ham, chicken, smoked sausage and peppers, topped with one Cajun spiced shrimp with creole sauce. This plate may look small but it was so filling!! Everything was tasty and I couldn’t put it down even though I was stuffed to near explosion!

The hubby ordered the Satisfaction Plate, of course! Why wouldn’t he!? This was pretty amazing as well, although it looked like what I ordered with more stuff, he was satisfied. On this plate, it had Louisiana Jambalaya with shrimp creole and red beans & sausage. Choice of creole sauce or tomato-tequila salsa and we picked the tomato-tequila sauce. Hearty and delicious.

To end this night, we didn’t stop. We ordered their Southern Pecan Pie which is what it sounds like, a pecan pie with whipped cream and fresh berries. This pie was perfect, it wasn’t sweet where it was hard to eat when you’re so stuffed, but yet it was still full of pecan flavour.

What an amazing dinner here! I was so happy I didn’t have to sit in the car for 3 hours to go home and got to spend the rest of the evening in Edmonton and digest. And yes, after a few hours I ate again as this city has so much unique and tasty food to offer.

Tooloulou’s Restaurant – Banff, AB

Banff is one of my most favourite places to go to! I especially love this place for the different types of delicious food and stumbling into Tooloulou’s Restaurant was no exception. This place has Louisiana style food which was a nice treat from other cuisines around town. Located right on Caribou Street, just off Banff Avenue is this little gem.

We sat down and ordered some Alligator Bites which was a plate of alligator peices fried to a nice crisp with some dipping sauce. These were really good and quite amazing, we didn’t even need the sauce.

We also shared a Seafood Gumbo which was seafood stew with shrimp, clams, scallops, sausage and vegetables served over Cajun dirty rice. It was a delicious stew and it even came with some cornbread on the side.

Then, we shared their Shrimp Quesadilla which wasn’t anything too unusal, but it was a really good quesadilla as it’s not the normal protein suspect. I do love shrimp and I love quesadilla’s.. so, you put it together – I’m in love!

As everything tasted so delicious, we figured we’ll stuff ourselves to the max and order some dessert. We tried their Southern Pecan Pie and unfortunately this was the one thing we could have done without. It wasn’t very fresh and the pecans were soft and chewy as though it has been in the fridge too long. We actually didn’t finish off the dessert which was too bad.

Overall, we loved this place! We would be back for meals, and probably just wouldn’t end it with a dessert from here. There were other options, but the waiter did recommend this pie to us. We definitely enjoyed the alligator bites and gumbo though!
