Red’s Diner – Calgary, Alberta

We've been meaing to come to Red's Diner for a few years now and this one morning, we actually ventured our way to this diner on 4th Street SW.
I guess I wanted a sugar high this particular morning as I started with a nice mug of Hot Chocolate which was pretty delicious.
Then, I ordered myself their Hazelnut Crepe and yes, it is what it sounds like... nutella crepe with bananas! It as amazing with the caramelized bananas inside and just enough nutella to make your teeth tingle! It was amazing and really filling - probably from the sweetness. This was simple, amazing, and super delicious!
Being the steak and eggs kind of guy my husband is, he ordered their Steak & Eggs which was a huge portion, with a really nice piece of steak cooked really well and seasoned to perfection! It smelled and tasted amazing!
Overall experience here was very enjoyable. Perfect way to set the stage for a great weekend! Service was super quick and friendly, and the prices was reasonable. It was breakfast, but had enough food to fill us up past lunch so it was well worth it! Red's Diner on Urbanspoon

La Boulangerie – Calgary, Alberta

I still really love bakeries and cafes and when we drove by Le Boulangerie I knew I wanted to try this place and enjoy my snack on it's patio. So, we parked our car and paid a fortune for coming here. I should've parked further away and taken a stroll over, but that's the price I pay sometimes!
This cafe is quite popular and it's busy! Even at the odd hour that we went, it seemed like it was packed. The selection of goodies inside was huge, but we opted out for our favourites as its just a little snack. You can order things from their hot menu items or sandwich items as well as their bakery/pastry selection. I decided to have their Hazelnut Eclair which looked quite delicious. I was worried about it being too sweet, but it was very subtle. Unfortunately, it didn't taste very fresh although it was tasty. I could only imagine how wonderful it would be if it was fresh!
The other thing we ordered was their Almond Croissant which didn't look that appealing. It did have almond flavour but it too wasn't very fresh. It was quite crispy on the outside but it wasn't light and fluffy on the inside. I'm not sure what's going on, besides thinking it wasn't too fresh.. or I was just overly excited and being to hopeful.
On a positive note, our drinks were very delightful! I ordered a cup of Chai Tea Latte and it was really fragrant and delectable! It was really nice to enjoy a nice hot drink on a breezy summer day on the patio!
My husband also enjoyed his Hot Chocolate which was decadent and delicious! Our drinks really hit the spot and it was good!
Overall, I think if I do return, I will order something from their savoury menu where they have to prepare it - like their crepes! Now that I read other customers reviews, it looks like crepes are a popular thing here! So, I could be back for that and some hot drinks! La Boulangerie on Urbanspoon

Bumpy’s Cafe – Calgary

I'm not sure why or even how I even ended up at Bumpy's Cafe but it's like it's hidden gem! Parking wasn't too bad as we arrived early on a Sunday morning so there was street parking! It's not too hard to find as there are 2 entrances to the cafe.
Once we got inside, it's a cute little place with lots of people coming and going - and a lot less customers sitting down and enjoying their morning. We sat down as it was going to be a slow paced Sunday for me.
I ordered to start, a cup of Hot Chocolate and it comes in a large cup - which I loved! It's really creamy but it doesn't feel thick and heavy. Plus, it's not overly sweet, so it was just right for me!
We also figured they'd do latte art, so we also ordered a latte, and we were right - there was beautiful latte art!!
When I use to work at the hotel, one of my favourite breakfasts was their Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Bacon so, that's what I decided to order from here.
We also ordered their Ham and Cheese Quiche which was in a pretty big slice, melty and ooey gooey making the cheese and egg really delicious!
Overall, the drinks were really delicious and the food wasn't bad either. It's simple foods and a tad greasy - but it tasted really good! I eat anywhere that offers good food and this place is no exception! If I was in the area again for breakfast, I'm sure I will be back! Bumpy's Cafe on Urbanspoon
