Presidents Choice – Savoury Pies

So, this has been pleasant! I really enjoy watching these weekly winners and it’s too bad there are only 7 finalists meaning there will only be 7 neat, new, and delicious recipes from Recipe to Riches.

This week, it was a real tight fight between Melaney Gleeson-Lyall and her Bannock Pie and Wayne Reid and his Salt Fish and Ackey Pie, a Jamaican Fish Pie which both sound really delicious. I was really hoping that Waynes Jamaican Fish Patty would win the race as it sounds really intersting. Normally when you think of Jamacian Patties, you think of beef and sometimes chicken. To see it come from a different protein, I would have loved to try it. I may just have to make his recipe at home as a compromise!

I am not a fan of Vegan pies, so I will say for myself that I am quite happy that Tikka Smiley‘s Vegan Pot Pie didn’t make the cut. I’m sure it’s really appealing to the mass market – especially these days when most of your consumers are health conscience. But, if you were really going to settle and eat a frozen savoury pie, health is probably not on the top of your mind.

At the end, it turns out, Melanie won, and I’m excited to try her product that is a part of Canadian Heritage from the First Nations, even though it’s a vegetarian product, I think it’s just going to be a super flavourful pie.
