Analog Coffee (17th Ave SW) – Calgary, Alberta

We were looking for a nice place to sit down and do a bit of blogging. I enjoy going to Analog and it is a place that makes me happy, any of their locations. This day we went to their 17th Avenue location.

I love ordering Mocha as it’s coffee and chocolate mix. It’s always a delicious choice. The nice thing about Analog is that they always do their latte art, no matter what! I always appreciate a simple thing like that and I never mind waiting a few extra minutes for a pretty drink.

I ordered an Apple Cinnamon Scone and to be honest, it was rather dry. It tasted good, but it just wasn’t what I would expect from here.

We also ordered their Ham and Cheese Croissant as it was a bit of a lunch during this visit. This was really delicious as they heated it back up, and the croissant was light and flaky!

My other half ordered a Latte which was a smooth and creamy latte and he enjoyed it thoroughly. I enjoyed it as well, especially next to my scone!

Overall, this place is a great place to go. This isn’t our first time here and it won’t be our last. We enjoy Fratello’s coffee! There’s not always a table for you as a lot of people do sit down. We didn’t stay too long but there was a quiet period around 3PM so we stayed until the next pocket of busyness. Parking was alright for us as well since we lucked out with the timing.

Sucre Patisserie & Cafe – Calgary, Alberta

A perfect weekend for me is sometimes just having a slow morning, with coffee and a baked good. I’ve been seeking this out a lot lately and just to work on this blog actually! I found this great place on the Beltline called Sucre Patisserie & Cafe and there’s street parking which is great as we got pretty close.

I ordered a Vanilla Latte as it’s my fancier drink and a tad sweeter. It’s exactly what I wanted and the neat thing about this is you can see they use actual vanilla beans! It was lovely!

This was an interesting day as it was amid day thing to do and we were going to friends house for dinner. This became a snack/late lunch kind of deal but we also spent 2 hours here. I got the Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant and the pastry is amazing! Light and fluffy, with good substance to it. It’s one of my favourites in the city right now!

My hubby ordered some sort of Mocha. He can’t remember and it was only last week! I’m not that far behind on this post! Regardless, he loved whatever he ordered. Funny thing is, I don’t remember trying it either! I’m terrible for taking peoples food and drinks and just trying it so it must have been something I just had no interest in as my stuff was amazing!

His little snack was a Banana Chocolate Croissant and it was sticky and ridiculously good! (See, I had some of this, even though I didn’t touch it! I got it fed to me! hahaha) It was a nice croissant cut open with slices of bananas in it and then topped with chocolate drizzle.

Overall, I would absolutely come here again and set up my laptop for a good afternoon quiet and slow day! I got to window watch people passing by when I wanted a little break, and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. I kept an eye on how busy it got as I like to give up my table when it gets too busy. They had a good thing going on here and I didn’t feel rushed. Everything was really good here.

The Other Paw Bakery Cafe – Jasper, Alberta

I love going to Jasper. I love going there unprepared… I seem to always do that. I’d be the idiot walking around in a dress and sandals while it’s snowing. It hasn’t failed me and I guess I just won’t learn that lesson. Now with that said, I was freezing and wanted to warm up in a cafe, and we stumbled into The Other Paw Bakery and Cafe where the lineup was massive, but they move the line fast! It helped as no one was in line for ice cream!

I ordered their Latte and enjoyed it thoroughly. We sat at a table near the back where it wasn’t as busy and enjoyed our breakfast/lunch/snack there! The latte was spectacular, and the coffee flavour was really amazing!

I love pineapple and and anything Hawaiian or tropical, so I had to get their Aloha Muffin. I’m not even too sure what’s in it, and I didn’t really care. I know this muffin was super moist and soft, fresh and delicious! It was still warm! I was in love with this muffin!

What my hubby had was a Chai Tea Latte, he’s more the type that likes to change it more than I do!! Weirdly, I introduced him to Chai.. The chai here was tasty and spicy, creamy and hot! Just the way I liked it. But, I can’t have my latte and his chai. I’d be asking to stop at the side of the road every hour if so!

He decided he would eat Jalapeno Pizza Pretzel, which wasn’t surprising to me. It totally sounded like what he would order! They heated it up for him and he really enjoyed his quiet time with his order. It wasn’t over spicy or anything, this place knows how to make amazing food and drinks!

Overall, this place is amazing. I even recommended it to friends when I hear people are going to Jasper. I love this place and it’s good for any time of day. We even bought a loaf of bread on the way home and it made excellent sandwiches for lunch!

London Fog Cafe – Calgary, Alberta

I was looking for a non-chain cafe just to sit down at and enjoy some me time and ended up at the London Fog Cafe and it’s totally not what I was expecting. To be brutally honest, I was going to turn around and walk away as it wasn’t what I wanted at the time. It looked like it was a family ran place and I don’t know what I was expecting that day either. But, I stuck to my original plan as I didn’t really want to get into the car and start driving around again.

I ordered a Latte which I didn’t have too much expectations for, but it was pretty decent. To my delight and surprise, they attempted latte art!! The latte was nice and hot, with the right amount of everything! It kind of made my afternoon!

I knew I needed to eat, and if you know me personally, you’d know sometimes I would need to eat or I’d pass out. It’s one of those days! I got myself a Carrot Cake Loaf and it was definitely homemade! Just a side note, because I thought it was interesting, I did end up passing out after this anyway. I went to the European market in the same plaza and then passed out in London Drugs. People thought I was pregnant and had complications… how embarrassing, but this is how I deal with embarrassing situations – I share it! But, the carrot cake loaf wasn’t bad at all! It was very moist, a bit more dense than a muffin, and lots of carrot cake taste without the cream cheese icing. I think that’s what I really wanted too, the icing!

Overall, not a bad place to visit. With parking and lots to do in the same parking lot – it was easy to spend an afternoon here!! Passing out has absolutely nothing to do with this cafe, in fact it probably prolonged it for me! The service here was amazing, the ladies were super nice and asked if everything was alright. I was really pleased with my choice to come here and I’m sure I will return!

New Town Bakery & Restaurant – Vancouver, British Columbia

We were hanging out in Vancouver for a few days while our friend had a conference here. We tagged along on their trip and while he was in a course, we took his wife to breakfast at New Town Bakery & Restaurant in Vancouver Chinatown. While it was only street parking, we went early enough on a weekday where we were able to find parking pretty much right outside the restaurant.

We all knew we wanted Chinese food and I knew I was ordering my favourite Chinese breakfast, as weird as it may sound, it’s the Pickled vegetables and sliced pork rice vermicelli noodle soup. There’s a lot of names for it but I decided to do the direct translation of it today. I eat this preserved/pickled vegetables with everything as it’s awesome to me, and not even from my region. It’s great on everything! Anyway, this was a huge bowl of noodles and it was really tasty! The flavours were excellent!

My noodle came in a combo, with a drink where I got their Milk Tea and to me it’s a staple drink for any Chinese bakery/restaurant. A good one is when it’s thick and can coat your tongue, like a rich coffee. I always order this with sweetened condensed milk anywhere I go! It’s not bad here, it’s pretty standard and decent.

I was ordering a bunch of sides as it’s what I wanted. I failed to take pictures of anyone elses food as the waitress was busy yelling at me. Well, not yelling at me, but she wasn’t friendly towards me. So, I just sat there like a bad kid. I ordered a Pineapple Bun with Butter as it’s another thing that I always order. The cookie top always lets you know if they’re good at their bun baking. Then, they heat it up and put in a slab of butter. There’s nothing more satisfying than this bun with a milk tea if you’re looking for a “small” breakfast. The bun was soft and delicate, the topping was crispy, and the butter melted perfectly. It was amazing!

This last dish isn’t even mine. I think I just claimed it from the table. It’s the Radish Cake that I lie to make at Chinese New Years. My hubby likes to compare others with my recipe. I don’t even have a family recipe or anything as no one makes it… but, I’ve made it into my own which has become my tradition. I make a delicious lo bak goh and if you’re a lucky person, I’d give you some or even one! If I give you one… please do not try to give it away right in front of me. At least do it when I’m not here. Someone I thought that liked me did that to me and it seriously broke my heart. Anyway, this radish cake was more cake than anything, but it was freshly steamed so it was super soft.

Overall experience here was great! The food was good, the service could be better and the price for these breakfast combos are always awesome, no matter where you go! You always get a lot of food for a decent price. Parking costs money, where we parked on the street anyway. I’m not sure if they got their own lot or not.
